The 2010 Derby – a double for Janów
Author: polskiearaby.com | 2010-08-19 | Print
The last Sunday of June Warsaw’s Służewiec track held one of those races that are awaited with anticipation by the entire racing community. Competing over a distance of 3 thousand meters were 10 of the best 4-year-old pure-blood Arabian stallions bred in Poland. The favorites originated from just one stud – Janów Podlaski. One of them was to forever write down his name in the history of this breed’s racing in our country. This honor befell the victorious Celtis (HS Etiquette – Celta/Pasat), trained by Daria Gutowska under the supervision of trainer Dorota Kałuba, ridden by Piotr Piątkowski. Second came Equilin (Saracen – Eqvida/Wojsław), the winner’s stablemate, while third was Celius (Ostragon – Cetyna/Eurol) from Damis. It was almost possible that the first three spots would’ve been occupied by horses from the Janów stud, as Sabah (Harbin – Salsa/Wojsław) dictated the pace from the very beginning, executing tremendous work for his racing stable and at the end he simply lacked further strength.

The fourth to cross the wire was Ensenator and behind him Trust, Hefajstos, Ewander, Echo Ofira and Montello. Withdrawn earlier were Mago and Drake.

The very pleased Director Marek Trela said (www.torsluzewiec.pl): „A double win in the Derby is a major event for us. First of all we would like to thank our wonderful trainer Dorota Kałuba for substantially supervising the majority of our horses competing in the Służewiec races. We would also like to thank our pupil Daria Gutowska, who from this season is also a licensed trainer. She is the one who prepares the horses for the races every day at our stud. Huge thanks also go out to jockey Siergiej Vasiutow for his willingness to fight, not only when he rides our horses on the track, but also during training. He is our main jockey. He knew that Celtis is also a good horse, but he withheld his personal ambitions and wanted to win atop Equilin, whom he rode in all previous races. And finally I would like to thank jockey Piotr Piątkowski for a masterly ride atop Celtis in the Derby.”
